BOTOX® Medical

What Is BOTOX® Medical?

BOTOX® Medical refers to the use of the popular neurotoxin injectable as a means for addressing conditions like hyperhidrosis. While occasional sweating is a necessary and natural function that allows our bodies to stay cool, excess sweating can be a serious problem. Hyperhidrosis is a condition that causes too much sweat production, leading to embarrassment and loss of self-esteem. At Helena Dermatology, we offer BOTOX® treatments as a means of addressing this concern and reducing excess sweating.

How Does BOTOX® Medical Work?

BOTOX® Medical injections are FDA-approved and can safely paralyze muscles in order to reduce wrinkles or prevent excessive sweating. Our sister center, Montana Aesthetics, offers this treatment as a means of addressing wrinkles and fine lines. At Helena, these injections serve a more medical purpose. When injected under the arm, it works by blocking the secretion of chemicals that activate sweat glands. This injection is, of course, administered after the application of topical anesthetic to minimize discomfort. This treatment lasts roughly 10 minutes and requires zero downtime, allowing you to return to your normal routine right after your visit.

What Does BOTOX® Medical Treat?

When used in a medical setting, BOTOX® Medical primarily addresses hyperhidrosis. The major problem with this condition is that it causes sweating even when it is unnecessary and unrelated to heat or exercise. Generally, a person suffering from hyperhidrosis will sweat excessively from a certain area like their palms, underarms, or face. Besides disrupting normal daily activities, this condition also ruins clothes, makes romance difficult, and complicates business interactions. BOTOX® Medical can effectively resolve this condition via a simple series of small injections.

What to Expect During Your Visit

When you arrive at our center, we will provide you with a comprehensive examination to determine the extent of your problem. In some cases, topical medications may be used to combat this issue. In others, BOTOX® Medical injections may be deemed the best treatment option. If so, we can administer the injections in as little as 10 minutes. No downtime is required after the procedure, so you will be free to go about the rest of your day after your session.

What Results You Can Expect

Results of your hyperhidrosis treatment can be noticed within 24-48 hours after your visit. However, best results will become apparent after roughly two weeks. The more units are injected, the longer the drying effects tend to last. Everybody breaks down BOTOX® Medical differently, so the duration of the results will vary. Generally, you can expect the results to last for 3-6 months after your treatment.
