What Is Sarcoidosis?
Sarcoidosis is a disease that causes localized inflammation in the body. These growths most commonly appear on the lungs and lymph nodes, but can also affect the eyes and skin. If this condition affects the skin, symptoms may include rashes, bumps and nodules. Sarcoidosis may develop gradually or quickly. It can be a difficult disease to diagnose with skin biopsies often aiding with this process.

What Causes Sarcoidosis?
The cause of sarcoidosis is unknown, but the general consensus is that it results from the body’s immune system dysregulation. Some research suggests that infectious agents, chemicals, dust and potential autoimmune responses could be the cause of this issue for those who are genetically predisposed. To get an accurate diagnosis of this condition, a skin biopsy, eye exam, chest X-ray, or CT scan may be necessary.
Topical Medications for Sarcoidosis
There is unfortunately no cure for cutaneous sarcoidosis, but most people do very well with topical treatments. In some individuals, intralesional treatment or systemic treatment may be necessary.
